Program Description

Studentsseeking a Master of Science degree in Sports and Fitness will learn the leadingprinciples in exercise physiology, sports nutrition, strength and conditioning,exercise testing, and prescription. There will also be a strong emphasis onleadership throughout the program. This master’s program provides graduatestudents with skills to effectively manage and lead a wide range of activitiesin the sports industry, including marketing, fitness leadership, and preventionof athletics injury management.

  • Utilize oral and written communication skills to express clearly, construct arguments and refine ideas appropriately.
  • Evaluate situations considering reflective judgment, information analysis and plurality of opinions to solve problems in a creative and effective way.
  • Work as part of a team and/or leading it, cooperating in the responsibilities, organization, and execution of tasks to achieve the proposed objectives.
  • Analyze ethical and social responsibility aspects in content and academic literature as social action, social relations, institutions, and social structures to integrate them into their future business activity.
  • Develop understanding of various software, online tools and emerging technologies and their applications in the sports and fitness management field.
  • Develop knowledge and understanding of business management concepts and understanding of different disciplines related to business to have a clear organizational vision of organizations.
  • Develop critical understanding and knowledge to identify, monitor, manage, and manipulate the business dynamics that drive sports and recreational organizations, prepared to meet various challenges in the areas of sports finance, management, and marketing.
  • Program Objectives

    The program aims to arm students with the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to be successful in a sports fitness career. With a master’s in sports management, students will gain an understanding of the industry structure and culture and strong business skills.

    Through this master’s program, students will:

    • Gain the ability to communicate effectively and persuasively (verbally and in writing).
    • Learn to work with diverse groups and organizations.
    • Learn to successfully engage as a professional in the sports industry.

    Admission Requirements

    Domestic Student         

    1. A completed signed and dated admission application.
    2. Application fee $85.00 (*) made payable to San Ignacio University. (non-refundable)
    3. Copy of high school diploma and or High School Transcripts, GED (General Education Diploma), or proof of post-secondary education. All documents and educational credentials, if they are not in English and must be translated and     evaluated by companies that are members of the National Association of     Credential Evaluation Services (NACES). For a complete list of approved     evaluation services, please visit: www.naces.org  
    4. Copy of valid Government Issued Picture Identification (upon admissions).

    International Student

    1. Completed signed and dated international application form.
    2. Application fee $85.00 (*) made payable to San Ignacio University (non-refundable)
    3. Financial statement or certified bank letter in English demonstrating full tuition funds available, along with living expenses capability to cover a minimum of one     year (12 months) of tuition and fees, books and supplies, living and any other necessary expenses during your studies. (Amounts must be in or converted to USD currency). A minimum of $23,000 USD
    4. Affidavit of support form if there is a sponsor and a copy of the sponsor’s ID.

    English Language Proficiency Requirements

    The University requires all non-native English speakers to demonstrate a command of the English language that is necessary for success in college level classes taught in English. Student taking classes in Spanish are exempt from the English proficiency exams.
